Blotched Tiger Salamander

Canada, Northern USA

Identification:
Irregular whitish, yellow to dark olive spots, bars or network on dark dorsum (upper body); Pattern more contrasting on sides and markings lighter and smaller in young adults. Markings often have indefinate borders. Some individuals nearly patternless, having only a few black spots. Colorado animals have black spots, separate or variously joined on ground color of dark olive, dark grey, to dark cream; spots are often surrounded by bronze flecking, producing lichenlike markings. In Montana, barred individuals occur on the plains, mottled to green ones in the mountains.

Other Information:
An isolated occurance in Moon Reservoir area of Harney County in Oregon, where it may have been introduced.
